Spontaneous Styling at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre, Clarkson

In Celebration of the arrival of Spring/Summer, Ocean Keys Shopping Centre held the first ever Spontaneous Styling workshops in Perth, as a part of their Spring Carnival festivities.

I was invited to join 2 other local Bloggers in a styling extravaganza.  Each Blogger was given a theme. Street Style, Ladies Who Lunch and Occasional Wear.

Tickets for each of the three events were sold out. The proceeds of the tickets went to not-for-profit group, Days for Girls.  Days for Girls are dedicated to creating a freer, more dignified, and educated world, by providing lasting access to feminine hygiene solutions and health education.

My theme was ‘Occasional Wear’.

I was joined on stage by hosts Rebecca Hall from KidzaBuzz Perth and Des Eddy, Ocean Keys Centre Stylist.

The challenge was to style the beautiful model, Claire from a selection of clothes and accessories that were on stage.  The catch – we only had 3 minutes to do it in!

The timer started and off I went, scouring the racks of beautiful dresses, blouses, skirts, shoes, accessories and more.  So many amazing pieces, so many options!

I discussed with the audience that when someone says “occasional wear” I immediately think, cocktail parties, black tie events, christmas/corporate parties, weddings and spring racing.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see sequins.  Perfect!  The dress was a stunning fully sequinned cocktail dress.  It reminded me of a designer, Balmain sequinned cocktail dress that was on the runway recently.  I decided that this would be the perfect Occasional Wear piece – Cocktail Dress!

This dress is stunning.  The sequins were a multicolour of blush, gold, silver and black.  All of these colours are on-trend at the moment and would suit any skin or hair colour.

Now it was time to accessorise.  To complete the look, I choose a nude sandal to keep the focus on the dress.

There were so many fabulous accessories to choose from.  Which made sense given that Ocean Keys has a Lovisa, Colette Hayman, Enhance, Target and Kmart and more all within the Centre.

Not much time left so I decided to go with a gold box clutch and gold floral tiara (not sure why I choose the tiara, probably accessory overload.  I wouldn’t normally have paired the two together as the sequins were clearly enough).

Just before my time was up, another dress caught my attention.  A blush, pleated midi! It hits all the current trends and can be worn to so many different events.  Too late, timer has gone off and time to help get Claire party ready.

As I am in the change room with Claire, we realise the dress is too short!  Claire is 6 ft tall.

This is a very good lesson ladies.  Always try clothes on.  Whilst the dress ticked all the boxes for cocktail parties, it didn’t suit Claire’s height.

Now, this was a challenge and I did choose this dress so the show must go on.  Claire strutted her stuff as Des and I found the humour and positive points to the selection.

Styling Idea

This stunning sequin dress would look amazing with a black tux style jacket and black pointy toe stilettos. Complete the look with a black envelope style clutch and gold hoop earrings – Glam Chic!

What a fantastic and unique way of celebrating the launch of Spring/Summer 17.

A stunning dress.  Red is very on-trend at the moment.  The cut out neckline creates a very flattering shape around the bust.  I love the full skirt with pockets.

Spend-less Shoes – available now $49.99

Complete the look with these elegant strappy sandals. Choose a nude colour if you want to keep the focus on the dress.  Nude heels also give the illusion of longer legs.

I’m Blushing

Spoil Yourself – available now $99.95

This dress was my second choice.  I love this dress for so many reasons.  A beautiful shade of blush.  This is the IT colour for the season.  The pleats are very flattering.  Anything that is vertical whether it’s pleats or stripes, lengthens!

This dress is very versatile and can be worn to a variety of events.  Weddings, Parties and Spring Racing to name a few. We all love value for money!

What was I wearing?  I’m glad you asked.

Glamazon Jumpsuit

Black jumpsuit from Live – $79

A very versatile key piece that can be styled many different ways (as I showed the audience)

  1. Cocktail Party – Pair with a gold high heel sandal and statement earrings.  Add a glittery clutch to complete the look
  2. Corporate Party – Wear a black blazer with it and black pointy toe heels
  3. Street wear – Throw on a white t-shirt, denim jacket and some sneakers – complete transformation

The event was a fabulous success and that was thanks to all the wonderful people who purchased tickets and the fabulous team at Ocean Key Shopping Centre.
